The Bowers Group Sponsored University of Wolverhampton Racing Praga team were back in action with both old faces and new, putting their skills and strategies to the test and enduring difficult conditions with an unwavering determination to emerge victorious.
The team, comprising of engineering students from the university, were excited to showcase their skills and knowledge in the racing world once again and their efforts certainly didn’t disappoint.
After a cold and wet day of racing at Silverstone, they enjoyed a strong start to their campaign, having prepared the Praga for changing and challenging conditions throughout the day. With senior students leading from the front and ensuring those new to car and to motorsport were supported, the team pulled together giving drivers Shame Kelly and Jess Hawkins a fighting chance throughout the weekend.
Jess Hawkins and Shane Kelly made waves on the track, battling through the rain and even a surprise fox to secure a solid 3rd place in Race 1. But that was just the beginning - Kelly's commanding drive led him to a well-deserved 1st place in Race 2.
And the team wasn't done yet - in a nail-biting finale, they clinched 4th place in a tight race, proving their skills and determination. With less than 3 seconds separating the top four, this team is a force to be reckoned with. Keep your eyes on these racers as they continue to dominate the season!
The strong start secured 2nd place overall in the championship with the UWR team now geared up and ready to take on the challenge head-on.
The Praga Cup 2023 promises to be an exhilarating ride, and the UWR team is all set to make their mark in this high-octane event once again.
