Bowers Group Financial Controller Completes Ironman Triathlon for Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Mike Turner has successfully completed the gruelling Ironman Triathlon, raising vital funds for The Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity.

Bowers Group's Financial Controller, Mike Turner, successfully completed the gruelling Ironman Triathlon in Hamburg, Germany, raising vital funds for The Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity. After previously conquering half-distance triathlons, Mike decided to take on the full Ironman challenge and raised almost £1000 in the process.

The Ironman Triathlon in Hamburg is a popular endurance event that draws athletes from around the world. Set in the city of Hamburg, Germany, the race includes a 3.8-kilometer swim in the Alster Lake, a 180.2-kilometer bike ride through the countryside, and a 42.2-kilometer marathon run through the city's streets.

Remarkable Strength and Determination

Ellie Skinner, Marketing Manager and member of the Spear & Jackson Charity Action Group, praised Mike’s accomplishment: “Completing a triathlon demands remarkable strength and determination, but doing it to support a crucial charity like the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is truly commendable. Bowers Group is incredibly proud of Mike’s efforts, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations on his impressive achievement.”

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a life-saving rapid response emergency service to 5 million people across Yorkshire. Operating two state-of-the-art Airbus H145 helicopters, Yorkshire Air Ambulance can reach remote and urban areas within minutes, offering critical medical care and swift transport to hospitals.

The charity relies entirely on donations and fundraising efforts, needing approximately £12,000 a day to keep both helicopters flying. Without regular financial support, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance cannot maintain its crucial operations, making every contribution essential to saving lives in the region.

A Worthy Cause

Reflecting on his Triathlon experience, Mike said, "Completing the challenge in just 10 hours and 45 minutes was an incredible experience. Raising money for such a worthy cause provided extra motivation, especially during the toughest moments! Thank you to everyone who supported me."
