Bowers Group’s Ellie Skinner is taking part in a trek to climb Mount Toubkal this November in aid of MIND. At 4,167m, Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains and the highest mountain in North Africa. If that wasn’t enough of a challenge, the winter conditions on Toubkal will make the mountain snow capped, meaning ice picks and crampons will be necessary.
Toubkal is a challenging climb, especially with the snow level, but successful climbers are rewarded with unrivalled views from the magnificent Mount Toubkal of the surrounding peaks, with Marrakech to the North, and the vast expanse of the Sahara to the South.Over a 5-day challenge, with three full days of trekking, Ellie will start in the foothills of the High Atlas, where picturesque valleys lined with juniper trees offer shade on the descent into the Mizane Valley. After spending the night at Base Camp learning how to use ice axes and crampons, Ellie will attempt the final climb to the summit.
Mind aims to provide advice and support in order to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. The charity campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem, but there are hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling. Mind believes no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone.
